Accreditation of Design Work Policy (Version 1.0 10/06/07)

Introduction

Proper accreditation is important for Student Design and individual designers as it confirms the identity of the designer in the case of a future dispute and provides both the designer and Student Design with an important marketing tool to attract future customers.

To protect the interests of Student Design and the designers that work for us this policy outlines the requirements surrounding accreditation of work and also outlines the incentives available to clients that adhere to this policy.

Websites

It is a contractual requirement that all websites bear an accreditation tagline in the following format “Designed by [Designer Full Name] working with Student Design” with the words Student Design forming a hyperlink to the Student Design homepage.

This tagline should appear at the bottom of each page of each significant page of the website in a legible font face and a font size no smaller than 4. In cases where the accreditation line is removed or altered before the delivery of the site to the client, delivery will be delayed until the accreditation line is replaced.

The tagline must remain on the site permanently unless another designer or design agency carries out a significant re-design. In cases where the accreditation line is removed after delivery of the site to the client has taken place the client will automatically lose their 10% loyalty discount on future work and legal action may be taken to force the replacement of the accreditation line.

In certain circumstances, with prior arrangement and at the complete digression of Student Design the alternative trading name of SD Services may used as a replacement for Student Design.

Flyers and Posters

Student Design recognises that it is not always possible or convenient for an accreditation line to be placed on this sort of design work. For this reasons it is not a requirement.

Should a client wish to allow and accreditation line there are clear incentives for doing so. The credit tagline should be in the format “Designed by [Designer’s Full Name] working with Student Design (www.student-design.co.uk)”

Should the client agree to include this accreditation tagline they will receive a 2% reduction of the cost of their design and their loyalty discount will be increased to 12% for all future design work. The 2% price reduction only applies on the first piece of design carried out for the client.

Banners and Logos

It is not appropriate or possible to realistically include an accreditation line on these types of design work and therefore is not a requirement nor is there incentives available for doing so.

Album Artwork

In all cases where album artwork in any part or in full has been designed by Student Design a credit tagline must be included on the front or inside page of the CD inlay booklet, or back of the front cover where an inlay is not present.

The tagline should be in the format of “Designed by [Designer’s Full Name] working with Student Design (www.student-design.co.uk). The tagline should be in the same size and font as the other text in the inlay (or where multiple sizes are used it should match the largest font size used). In cases where the accreditation line is removed or altered before the delivery of the site to the client, delivery will be delayed until the accreditation line is replaced.

The tagline must remain on the inlay permanently in all released of the CD where all or any part of the design work provided is used. In cases where the accreditation line is removed after delivery of the site to the client has taken place the client will automatically lose their 10% loyalty discount on future work and legal action may be taken to force the replacement of the accreditation line.

Other Forms of Design

On all other types of design work including bespoke pieces circumstances will vary between pieces and accreditation requirements will be decided at the time of design and made known to the client. Some level of negotiation is available in these cases, but the decisions including the format, size, location of the tagline and any consequences for non-adherence, of Student Design will be final and will be a contractual requirement.
